The fabulous and legendary Jebel Musa right at the cost of Africa is part of the Moroccan Rif-mountains and provides an absolutely unique view over the Strait of Gibraltar and even further right up to the Sierra Nevada. Together with its counterpart, the Rock of Gibraltar they form the famous Pillars of Hercules. According to the Greek mythology Hercules had to perform twelve labours for Eurystheus and one of them was to get some of the magical golden apples from the garden of the Hesperides.

This is the starting point of our ascent. We have lunch on a terrace of one the few, but well visited restaurants. After lunch we are ready to start trekking the 3207 meters to the Mountain refuge. The mountain tracks are ragged and the views are magnificent. Luckily a mule carries our provision and most of our luggage. We arrive in the late afternoon at the Refuge for dinner and overnight. The next morning starts early for our ascent of Toubkal (4167meters), the route is not technical, but is a rough scramble, the views from the summit are definitely worth the effort. After the summit photo we descent back to the refuge for a quick lunch, before our descent back to Imlil.
The next morning we make our way back to Marrakech, but we will not leave without a visit to the famous and colourful Djemma el Fna, the main square in this extraordinary and diverse city. We take the evening sleeper train to Tangiers where we’ll enjoy breakfast in our last few hours in Africa. The fast ferry will take us back to our starting point Tarifa.
